Household Hazardous Waste |

WHAT IS HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE?
Unwanted household products with labels such as flammable, toxic, corrosive, reactive, etc. are household hazardous wastes (HHW).
Household Chemicals - These include most household cleansers, oven cleaners, drain openers, glues or fixatives, and extra-strength cleaning solvents.
Pesticides and Herbicides - This category includes pest control chemicals that you would use in your house (ant or roach spray), or on your yard or garden (insect or weed killer).
Flammables or Combustibles - Polish remover, paint remover, WD-40 and like products, fuel, etc.
Paint or Paint Products - Most household paint is latex or oil-based. The label should clearly identify what type of paint you have, but if you're unsure just remember that latex paint cleans up with water, and oil paint cleans up with thinner. Paint products include thinners, varnishes, stains, etc.
Automotive Waste - Used motor oil and oil filters, antifreeze.

In 1993, ECISWD began sponsoring an annual event called Tox-Away Day to collect household hazardous waste from District residents. It was clearly one of the District’s most popular programs. During the year of 2003, residents brought 138 tons of household hazardous waste for recycling or safe disposal. Since 1993, over 1,500 tons of household hazardous waste has been kept out of Indiana’s landfills through these collection events. The District no longer hosts Tox-Away Day because HHW is accepted year-round at the following locations:

East Central Recycling 701 E. Centennial Avenue, Muncie

GRANT COUNTY:
Grant County Recycling Center 3939 Garthwaite Road, Gas City
Hours of Operation: Tuesday & Thursday, 8A-4P, Wednesday, 8A-6P, Saturday, 8A-1P
MADISON COUNTY
Madison County Recycling Center *** 2031 Mounds Road, Anderson
Hours of Operation: Tuesday & Thursday, 8A-4P Wednesday, 10A-6P, 2nd & 4th Saturday, 8A-12N**
